Implementing CMS on your web site

The Rollout

The CMS is a progressive rollout of the TeamSite and Metatagger products across 30 major web sites hosted by the central servers to enable more effective management of those sites. The project commenced in Jan 2003 and is scheduled to complete in mid 2006.

The Process

The process begins with consultation (see First Steps) and then Joint Analysis and Design (JAD) Sessions to identify the business needs and plan to implement a system to deliver those needs. This is followed by a time for design, usually of one month's duration.

Then the implementation begins, followed by a cutover from the old site to the CMS managed site and you will implement a project to template your site

The Roles you will need

The following roles are recognised by the CMS

  • Author
    • The author is typically an expert in the content of the web page, or is acting for an expert in the content.  The content of a web site typically is created by multiple authors
  • Approver
    • If required, content can be sent to another person for validation/approval prior to publishing.  Examples are management approval, expert approval such as legal or marketing, or peer group review.  Self approval is appropriate if the author is the expert and is trusted to submit content.
  • Administrator
    • Typically the webmaster of the site.  This person manages access permissions, provides first level support, manages escalated problems such as approvers not available or content reviewers not available, releases locked files and ends stalled workflows.

Summary of your commitment

You will be involved in the following tasks. The duration of these tasks is dependent on the size and complexity of the site implementation.

  • Initial discussion - informational
  • Pre analysis discussion - who, what, when, where
  • Joint Analysis and Design session (JAD)
  • Preparation of specifications
  • Site rationalisation and/or restructure
