Sophos installation for Mac OS X
Sophos for OS X is available for Macintosh computers both on campus and at home. To use the software at home you must have an Authcate username and password.
System requirements
- Mac OS X 10.4 or greater
- Intel - based Macintosh (32bit and 64bit)
- PowerPC - based Macintosh
- Minimum 77 MB free disk space
- Minimum 128 MB RAM
Before you begin
Remove any previous versions of Sophos from your Mac.

On your computer, navigate to: Macintosh Hardrive>Library>Sophos Anti-Virus |
| 2. |
Run the Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg package. |

Removal is now complete. |
1. Installation

Download the installer disk image. |
| 2. |
Mount the disk image and run the Sophos Anti-Virus.mpkg installer. |
| 3. |
When the installer launches, select continue. |
| 4. |
Select a destination volume for Sophos - generally Macintosh HD.

Select Install to begin the installation. |
| 6. |
The installer will begin copying files to the destination volume. |
| 7. |
Once completed, select Close to finish the installation. |
| 8. |
Installation is now complete. |
2. Configuration
- At Monash: Sophos has already been customised for on campus use and no additional configuration should be neccessary.
- At home: You will need to configure the AutoUpdater to use your Authcate credentials as follows:
Note: To change any of the settings you may need to authenticate by clicking on the padlock icon in the bottom left hand corner. This requires the account name and password for an administrative account on the Macintosh.
How to configure Sophos at home

Select Open Preferences from the Sophos menu. |

On the Primary Server tab, the Address location has been prefilled and does not need configuring. Just enter your Authcate username and password.

Save these settings. |

On the Secondary Server tab, the Address location has been prefilled and does not need configuring. Just enter your Authcate username and password.

Save these settings. |
| 6. |
Configuration is now complete. |
Note: when you change your Authcate password at Monash, you will also need to change it in the Sophos application.
3. Updates
You should run a manual update after the initial installation.

Select Update Now from the Sophos menu.

The updater will connect to the server and download any available program and virus definition updates. |
| 3. |
Sophos will automatically check for updates every 60 minutes. |
