Starting a Project

If you have proposed a project and received approval (and perhaps funding) it is time to do some planning.

Before starting a project we suggest you read Project Management@Monash (pdf 280kb) and in particular Section 3, Project Management Methodology. The most relevant material for the early stages can be found in Phase 1: Project Planning.

Not all of the suggested steps will be applicable to all projects, however careful consideration should be given before skipping too many steps or leaving out some of the suggested roles and responsibilities.

The role of the Project Sponsor is pivotal to successful use of the framework, and you may also wish to review the role of the Project Manager and information on Steering Committees.
